Incorporated in 2017 at MASDAR CITY, Africa Renewable Energy has sought to establish itself as the first Sudanese Developer for grid connected wind energy projects and future Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Sudan. As a partnership between Ahmed Osman Abdelsalam Group (AOAG) & National Petroleum Service Co (NAPESCO).

In 2017 AfRe expressed interest in updating the development studies carried out by a GEF/UNDP project for implementation of a Wind Power Project at Dongola with follow on project in 5 other locations in Eastern Sudan as well as Nyala in the West.
The total project capacity to be delivered over seven years is 1400 MWp. The project Framework Agreement was signed with the Sudan Electricity Holding Co. (SEHCo), on April 19th 2018.

AfRe has developed a Hybrid PV/Diesel solution that serves to reduce the diesel consumption of the 12 diesel generators installed at the booster station, powering the 4 pumps (supplying 40 pivots) and hay press.
The anticipated reduction in diesel consumption is 5,524MWh per annum.
AfRe is currently upgrading the design to satisfy the total farm load of 9.275 MWp.
The envisaged application shall incorporate storage to completely remove the need for diesel.
There is great demand for water wells in most regions of Sudan. This has encouraged AFRE to introduce and provide innovative solutions to extract ground water using solar energy.
AFRE has established technical agreements with international partners to provide technical solutions for water well pumps to be operated by solar energy.
